HOW TO PARTICIPATE IN THE DEPARTMENT’S CHARITABLE GIVING PROGRAM
The Vacaville Fire Department has several programs that depend on private contributions for funding. Through their charity and kindness, hundreds of businesses and individuals have helped to sustain these programs that directly benefit the citizens of Vacaville. The programs include:
Paramedic Equipment Fund. Used to purchase specialized medical equipment for use by the Department’s paramedics and EMTs to improve our emergency medical services to the Community. This fund allows us to purchase equipment that we would not normally be able to buy out of the regular operating budget.
Smoke Alarm Program. Funds are used to purchase new smoke alarms and fresh batteries for those who cannot afford to buy them. Our crews install them at no charge. This fund helps get more of these life-saving devices into our residents’ homes.
Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) Fund. Funding to purchase additional AEDs for use throughout the community. Donations to this fund will help increase the number of AEDs that can be used when someone’s heart has stopped beating properly.
Medical Emergency Data System (MEDS) Program. Funds are used to purchase supplies that are needed to create the MEDS kits. Those kits are distributed at no cost to citizens and can provide emergency personnel with critical medical information in cases when patients cannot speak for themselves.
Holiday Toy Program. Donations of new toys or cash are used to provide toys to children who might not otherwise receive them during the Holiday season. Members of Vacaville Firefighters Association, Local 3501 collect the toys and pass them on to various social service organizations for distribution to families in need.
Holiday Food Certificate Program. Funds are used to purchase grocery gift certificates that are given to families in need during the Holiday season. Social service agencies provide the Department with the names of families who can use some help with food purchases during the Holidays.
If you would like to donate to one or more of the programs listed above you can do so in person at Fire Administration’s Offices located in City Hall, 650 Merchant Street during regular business hours, or you can mail your donation to that address. Except for the Toy and Food Certificate programs, checks should be made payable to “City of Vacaville” followed by the name of the program you are donating to. In return, you will receive a letter of heartfelt thanks and a receipt for your tax files.
