Family Investigative Response Service Team

The Family Investigative Response Service Team (FIRST) is a collaboration of the Vacaville Police Department with Child Protective Services, County Probation Department, and the District Attorney’s Office. The Vacaville Police Department, through (FIRST), has developed diverse specialized service programs to address the needs of families, senior citizens, and children in response to family violence.

Domestic Violence Victims

At the FIRST Office, Family Support Workers provide advocacy services to cover:  safety planning, referrals for counseling, assistance with obtaining restraining orders, court accompaniment, translation services for Spanish speaking clients, transportation to court house, and referrals to Family Resource Center for help with obtaining employment, resumes, and other basic needs services. The FIRST Office also provides victims with assistance into shelters and support groups.

Sexual Assault Victims

FIRST Office Family Support Workers provide advocacy services to cover referrals for counseling, assistance with obtaining restraining orders, court accompaniment if needed, and translation services for Spanish speaking clients.

Elder Abuse Victims

The FIRST Office detectives investigate cases of physical and sexual abuse, neglect, and fiduciary crimes against elders. Family Support Workers can provide home visitation, resource linkage, counseling information and referrals. The Family Support Worker will also follow up with the FIRST detective and Adult Protective Services to help victims with the appropriate referrals and crime prevention.

Child Abuse Response Team
The FIRST Office detectives investigate physical abuse, sexual abuse, and neglect against children. The detectives work in partnership with Child Protective Services for forensic interviews and criminal prosecution.

The family support programs focus on families with children, birth to five years of age. They offer resource linkage, in-home support, parenting skill building, basic needs assessment, and referrals for therapy and parenting classes (in English and Spanish). The family support workers work with parents to better their relationship with their children and help build a healthy, nurturing family environment.  This program is partially funded by a grant from First 5 Solano.
