HELP PREVENT WATER POLLUTION
Did you know that mercury thermometers and thermostats discarded into your garbage can seep into the ground water and contaminate our drinking water supply and wildlife habitats? You can bring mercury thermometers and thermostats to the Easterly Wastewater Treatment Plant @ 6040 Vaca Station Road, Monday – Friday, 8:30 a.m. – 4:00 p.m. to be disposed of safely. Please call (707) 469-6400 if you have any questions on this program.
Where do you drain your swimming pool or spa? If your pool or spa is treated with chlorine and other chemicals, you should pump the water into the sewer cleanout for your home. Draining this water into the gutter to flow down the storm drains puts those harmful chemicals into freshwater wildlife habitats.
The City participates in a statewide Annual Cleanup Day each September to help prevent water pollution. In 2006, 290 volunteers dedicated their day to cleaning up 30 acres at Centennial Park. Their efforts yielded 7000 lbs of trash and 800 lbs of recyclables!
