Saving Energy
The City is continually working to reduce energy costs. For example, in the mid 1990's, the Public Works Department converted all traffic signal lights from bulbs to energy saving LED's (light emitting diodes). In addition, the new Police Building has been designed and constructed to take advantage of the latest ideas in energy conservation. The City is also participating in the Local Government Energy Partnership, and is looking for ways to reduce energy consumption at its largest facilities.
Recently, Public Works was instrumental in the installation of photovoltaic systems on the roof of City Hall and at the new Bella Vista Park and Ride Lot. Solar arrays help offset the cost of EV-Charging Stations at both locations, and can even feed power back into the electrical power grid.
