Cultural Diversity Fair

The annual Cultural Diversity Fair is held at the Vacaville Cultural Center. The all-day event draws thousands and offers a dazzling array of musical and dramatic performances, educational exhibits, mouth-watering ethnic foods and craft booths.  The Cultural Diversity Fair committee that organizes the event is composed of student and adult members working to foster respect and appreciation for diversity in the community and to celebrate its multiethnic heritage.

 

ATOD

Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) prevention programs work in conjunction with a variety of other city, community and school sponsored programs.  Workscope includes sustaining and working with youth development programs such as Link Crew & Youth Takin' On Tobacco, parenting programs, media campaigns, police enforcement operations, and environmental policies. 

 

Link Crew

LINK Crew students work as mentors to younger students to aid in the transition from Middle School to High School.  In addition, Link Crew members are actively involved in a variety of other youth programs. 


GOTCHA

GOTCHA is a recognition and reward program for Vacaville students.  Currently, the Vacaville Chamber of Commerce recognizes students who excel academically  make good choices by providing small rewards and safe activities for those students. 

 

AKA Literacy Program

Sponsored by Alpha Kappa Alpha, the Literacy Program provides books and reading-skills practice to community children.  The Literacy Program was started in 1995 and currently works with the Boys & Girls Club and local churches.  The program encourages reading with all grade levels and is also intended to help children with reading problems.  Used books can be donated to Bounty Books or placed in the barrels at Nugget Market.

 
Parent Project Classes & Proyecto de Los Padres

The Parent Project is a 10-week parenting class, which gives parents concrete, concise tools to change any negative or unwanted behavior.  Sponsored by the Vacaville Police department, Parents will be given the tools to improve school attendance and performance, understand and communicate with children, provide structure and supervision, and utilize love and affection.  Classes are offered in both English and Spanish.  Parent Project, Jr., a similar successful program, provides information to parents of children ages 6-10. 

 

Children's Nurturing Project

The Children's Nuturing Project and Welcome Baby Programs welcome newborns to the Vacaville Community by providing food, information, books, and supplies to babies and their new parents. 

 

Nurturing Program for Parents & Young Children

The Nurturing Program for Parents and their young Children is a 6 or 8 week parenting class which focuses on helping parents of children, ages infants to five, bond with their families.  Class offers techniques to facilitate the emotional, physical, and intellectual growth of young children.  Classes are offered in both Spanish and English and children attend with their parent(s).

 

Youth Summit

Presented by the Vacaville Youth Roundtable, the City of Vacaville, and the Vacaville Police Activities Leagues, the Vacaville Youth Summit provided teens with the opportunity to hear frank discussion on the topics that most effect them.  Planned and implemented by students, the Youth Summit also created an activity for students to have fun and relax in a safe environment.

 

Youth Takin' On Tobacco (YTOT)

YTOT is a youth-led, community-based, peer education program that advocates for healthy choices regarding Alcohol, Tobacco, and Other Drug (ATOD) use. High-school age members develop age appropriate presentations for elementary, middle school and high school students to educate their peers about the dangers, consequences, and effects of ATOD use. YTOT is based on principles of youth development, leadership, and service to the community.
